The School of Higher Education was founded in 1998 with the main aim of providing academic qualifications that are relevant, current, practical and internationally accepted. In Trinidad and Tobago there exists a huge gap between what is delivered in classrooms versus what is really needed in workplaces. Graduates in many instances have highly theoretical expertise lacking the practical knowledge needed for viable productive output.
SHEL programmes are relevant, offering unique highly demanded degrees such as Facility Management, Logistics and Supply Chain, Entrepreneurial Management, Quantity Surveying to name a few. Research will show that this range of programmes is not readily available on the programme portfolios of the majority of tertiary institutions in Trinidad and Tobago.
The currency of SHEL’s programmes is represented through the time frame and teaching methods we employ in our course delivery. The major international universities are now offering one year MBA and two year BA programmes. SHEL is one of the few institutions in Trinidad that are in sync with these contemporary developments ensuring that our programmes take into account the newest delivery systems and methodologies thus keeping ahead of the competitors through up to date international knowledge
Finally, our programmes are inclusive of exam based assessments and practical applications. Most important to note is the included practical components ensure our students can make an immediate contribution to the functional environment thus ensuring an effective return on their investment, marketability and by extension national development.
