INTRODUCTION
Architectural Technology, also known as building engineering or architectural engineering, is an integral part of the construction discipline that deals with the technological aspects and multi-disciplinary approach to planning design, construction and operation of buildings. SHEL is offering an ACTT Accredited Level 5 Diploma in Architectural Technology.
Construction design areas such as analysis and integrated design of environmental systems energy conservation, HVAC, plumbing, lighting, fire protection, acoustics, electrical power systems, vertical and horizontal transportation, behaviour and properties of building components and materials are core skills in this profession space.
From reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, to the construction of resilient buildings, construction architectural engineers are at the forefront of addressing several major challenges of the 21st Century. They apply the latest scientific knowledge and technologies to the design of buildings. Construction Architectural Technology as a relatively new licensed profession emerged in the 20th Century, as a result of the rapid technological developments.
Architectural engineers are at the forefront of two major historical opportunities that today’s world is immersed in: (1) that of rapidly advancing computer-technology, and (2) the parallel revolution arising from the need to create a sustainable planet and futuristic construction technologies.
*A Diploma will be awarded to students upon the successful completion of all teaching sessions.

Learning Outcomes
Students will learn the following in this Diploma in Architectural Technology:
- Establish students as well-rounded specialists in architecture, skilled in academic study of the subject, confident in an international marketplace and prepared for entry into professional architectural practice to continue their vocational qualifications.
- Sketching and drawing relevant to the construction industry.
- Provide students with a broad understanding of a wide range of aspects of the built environment
- Produce high quality graduates with the understanding, knowledge, skills and personal qualities required to undertake a wide range of careers across the construction industry in building, general contracting, consultancy or advanced research.
- Ensure students have an awareness of the importance of safety in construction, the methodologies for addressing it and the legislative framework for its enforcement.
- Make professionally competent judgements in the workplace environment.
- Demonstrate scholarship through development of personal skills and knowledge.
- Communicate effectively using subject specific knowledge and skills.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE
SHEL’s Diploma in Architectural Technology is divided into 2 Semesters, of 4 months each:
- Semester 1 runs from September to December
- Semester 2 runs from January to April.

- Classes are 4 Days a Week (Mon – Thur)
- 15 Class Sessions
- 4 Exams
- Semester Duration: September 2026 – December 2026

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Direct Entry Criteria
Students MUST possess at least ONE of the following:
- Certificate in a related discipline from an accredited institution – OR
- SHEL’s Built Environment Certificate
- 2 CAPE / GCE A’Level Subjects
Mature Entry Criteria
In order to be considered for Mature Entry, Students MUST possess:
- 3 Years Experience in an Architectural Environment
- Be over the age of 21
